Juanita Leonora Wood, 97, left us to be with the Lord on November 20, 2016 in Coral Springs, Florida.

Juanita was born February 14, 1919 in Saginaw, Michigan to Evelyn Estella (Rand) and Luke C. Smith. On December 4, 1938 she married Delbert Edward Wood of Manton, Michigan. They lived in Bay City, Michigan until her retirement in 1983; after which they moved to Coral Springs, Florida,

She is survived by her sisters, Beverly Drukis and Bernadine Cook; children, Robert Edward Wood and Judith Ellen (Wood) Weber; grandchildren, Gregory Wood, Sheryl (Wood) Morgan, Michael Weber, and Karen (Weber) Vizaniaris; and eight great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Delbert Wood.

She is remembered by her children and grand children as a loving and wise mom and grandmother and a great cook. We remember some wonderful holiday meals.

While in high school she played the cello in a string trio that performed at church and community events. Her interests included gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, square dancing, qigong, tai chi, Chinese painting, and camping:

During World War II she worked in a defense plant. Later, after training, she worked for 15 years as a medical technologist with certification in histological technique.

After many hours volunteering at Bay County Mental Health's Day Treatment Center Juanita returned to school to study psychology. She graduated in 1971 with a Master of Arts degree in clinical psychology from Central Michigan University. She taught off campus classes in group therapy for CMU and classes on Death and Dying for nurses, doctors, morticians, and others. Juanita was licensed by the state of Michigan as a "Psychological Examiner" and was also certified as a Group Psychotherapist, Sex Therapist, and Hypnotherapist. She worked as a psychotherapist in the only adult mental health clinic in a county of 228000 people. She was promoted to Adult Mental Health Coordinator, which included supervision of the Adult Clinic and remained in that position until retiring in 1983. During that time she also served on the board of directors of the Mid-Michigan Psychologists, Inc and the Bay County Chapter of the Mental Health Association of Michigan.

After retiring to Coral Springs Juanita volunteered as Group Facilitator for the Shepherd's Center, and was a Stephen Ministries Leader at First United Methodist Church for nearly ten years.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 17 at 10 am at the First United Methodist Church Coral Springs, 8650 W Sample Rd, Coral Springs, FL 33065
